NYC Gifted & Talented Test
The NYC Gifted & Talented Test
The NYC Gifted and Talented Test is comprised of two assessments (OLSAT and NNAT) aimed at identifying gifted children in NYC. It is administered to children entering Kindergarten- 3rd grade every January as part of the NYC Gifted and Talented program application. Lil’ Eggheads prepares children entering Kindergarten to 2nd grade.
District vs. Citywide
There are 32 school districts across NYC’s 5 boroughs. Schools with G&T programs strongly favor the students within their district (fun fact: Lil’ Eggheads is located in district 14!). In order to be considered, students must score in the 90th percentile or higher. It should be noted that there isn’t a standard district G&T curriculum and that is left to the school’s discretion. Be sure to visit each school’s G&T program to get a better sense of the curriculum and program.
There are 5 district schools, which are listed below. Each school has their own G&T curriculum and only admits students who score in the 97th percentile or higher. These seats are so competitive and so many children score in the 97th- 99th percentile that it is very difficult to gain a seat unless your child received a score in the 99th percentile. Students who are siblings of current students are given entry if they receive a score in the 97th percentile.
